Quick answer Getting PADI Open Water certified in Tioman takes 3 full days if you complete theory on-site, or 2 days if you finish eLearning beforehand. The full process: 8-12 hours theory + 5 confined-water dives + 4 open-water dives. Your PADI eCard is issued within 24-48 hours of completion; physical card arrives within 4-6 weeks.

Quick answer: 2 to 3 days

At TDB SunBeach the standard schedule is 3 days: arrival day for theory and confined water, day 2 for first open-water dives, day 3 for final dives and certification debrief. With eLearning completed at home, you skip the theory day and finish in 2 full days.

Day 1 — Theory and confined water

Arrive at the resort, settle in, then start theory if you didn't do eLearning. Lunch break, followed by 5 confined-water skill sessions in a calm shallow area (3-5m). You'll practise mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy, and emergency procedures. Evening: dinner and dive planning for tomorrow.

Day 2 — First open-water dives

Boat departure to a shallow dive site (often Renggis or Tulai). Two open-water training dives separated by a 1-hour surface interval. Your instructor leads skill checks underwater. Afternoon: review and prep for next day. Evening free for resort facilities.

Day 3 — Final dives and certification

Two final open-water training dives at slightly deeper sites (up to 18m). Final skills check, then a celebratory surface! Back at the resort, your instructor processes your PADI submission online. Departure ferry afternoon.

When will I get my PADI card?

The PADI eCard appears in your PADI account within 24-48 hours of submission — usable immediately for booking dives anywhere. The physical card arrives by international post in 4-6 weeks. You don't need the physical card to dive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if weather delays my dives?

TDB SunBeach extends your stay at no extra accommodation charge to complete missed dives. Travel insurance is recommended to cover ferry rebooking.

Can I finish faster than 2 days?

No. PADI requires minimum dive numbers and surface intervals for safety. 2 days with eLearning is the legal minimum.

What if I need more practice?

Extra training dives cost RM 180-220 each. Most students need them only for a specific skill (usually buoyancy or mask clearing).
